Golfkicks Co-Founder Talks About Working With Mark Cuban and Growth After Shark Tank

Golfkicks co-founder Ty Stuart said, "Let's see if we can survive the Tank."

Happy Tuesday!

I recently had the chance to chat with Ty Stuart, one of the founders of Golfkicks, who pitched on Season 11 of Shark Tank. In our interview, Ty shared a bit about his journey, memorable moments from the show, some insight into working with Mark Cuban, and the growth of their business since Shark Tank. Plus, there's a special discount at the end just for our readers!

Imagine if a text thread with your best friends about Shark Tank was a podcast. That’s “Hey Chums: An Unauthorized Shark Tank Podcast,” a comedic series available wherever you get your podcasts. Join hosts Sylvie and Alyssa, two producers with a lot to say and very little grasp of basic economics. We walk through segments, reflect on products, and offer theories on the investing habits of the Sharks based on their astrological charts. Guest contributors include actual venture capitalists, successful entrepreneurs, and even a Sopranos alum who’s just a big fan of the show. Check us out on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and Anchor.fm. See you in the chum tank!

When asked about his inspiration to go on Shark Tank, Ty said, "We were just getting started with our new invention and got the call from the casting director, so it was a hell yeah for us, let's see if we can survive the Tank."

Ty shared that the actual pitch lasted about an hour, but it felt like a mere 6 minutes. He said they enjoyed every stage of the process and even took acting lessons to prepare for being on national TV.

“We had a blast at every stage of the process, from filming our early tryout videos at the local municipal golf course and taking acting lessons in Denver because we were so bad, then rolling into the Shark Tank in a golf cart and telling our story.”

Ty didn’t have anything bad to say about his time on Shark Tank, but shared that they did encounter a few fire drills when trying to keep up with and fulfill orders after the show aired. A good problem to have!

When I asked him about what it’s been like working with Mark Cuban, he spoke highly of their collaboration, saying, "Mark and his team were super cool to work with and helped ground us from a new, wild idea to a functioning business." Ty said that they would gladly make the same deal with Mark again.

As for their post-Shark Tank success, Golfkicks Traction Kits have been selling well, and the company has been experiencing growth every year. They've managed to make their way into golf shops, partnered with retail stores, and even have professional players on the PGA, LPGA, and Champions Tour wearing their products.

They're also expanding their product line to field sports with their upcoming Yardkicks Traction line, so be on the lookout for that!

Ty was kind enough to offer the Shark Tank Recap audience an exclusive discount that is available until April 1, 2023. Simply use the code SHARKTANKRECAP at checkout to save 15% on your order.

Next week, I’ll tell you about how Slate has grown to 5,000 retail locations since Shark Tank!
