🚿 A gopher in the shower drain
Jennifer knew she had a problem...
Happy Friday!
Jennifer Briggs knew she had a problem when she thought she saw a gopher in her shower drain.
She quickly called her husband Gifford, who opened the drain only to find out it was a massive clump of hair!
Jennifer and Gifford have five daughters who share one bathroom, and as you can imagine, hair clogging up the drain can quickly become a big issue!
Born out of necessity, they created DrainWig. An easy way to get hair out of the drain.
Here’s the story of how DrainWig got a deal on Shark Tank and ended up in the Oscar Swag Bag!
Jennifer and Gifford had their five daughters hand out samples of DrainWig to help the sharks visualize the issue.
The sharks quickly understood the problem that DrainWig solved, and Jennifer and Gifford shared that they were seeking $300,000 for 5% equity.
The beauty of DrainWig is that you can easily remove hair from a shower or tub without having to touch it.
And if you’ve ever cleaned out a drain by hand before, you know how disgusting it can be!
Simply slide the chain down the drain and allow the flower design to catch on the grate. Then, after a few months, pull it out to remove the hair, toss it in the trash, and replace it!
Jennifer and Gifford Briggs and their five daughters on Shark Tank
To date, Jennifer and Gifford have sold over $14 million worth of DrainWigs.
Their sales come from major retail stores like Walmart, Bed, Bath, and Beyond, as well as infomercials.
Unfortunately, they signed a bad three-year deal with an infomercial company and aren’t making much money.
Specifically, they’re receiving about 5% of the overall sales, which is around $800,000.
Thankfully, the deal is up for re-negotiation soon, and they want a shark to help them get out of the deal and take control of their sales channels.
Mark loves the product but isn’t interested in helping them rebuild the business model.
On the flip side, guest shark Sara Blakely says that she loves owning 100% of her businesses and feels like they can figure this out on their own and retain full ownership.
Kevin and Daymond both make offers of $300,000 for 20% equity. Lori offers $300,000 for 25% equity, emphasizing that she specializes in retail and infomercials.
After considering the offers, Jennifer asks if any of the sharks would do 15% and mentions that getting DrainWigs into hotels would massively increase the company’s profits.
Kevin jumped at the counteroffer and made a deal!
Since airing, Kevin has helped Jennifer and Gifford re-negotiate the infomercial deal.
He also helped them set up their own sales funnel, allowing them to take control of their profits.
While DrainWig’s growth hasn’t skyrocketed, it makes around $1 million in sales every year and has a big presence on Amazon.
Oh, and in 2014, they were included in the Oscar nominee gift bag!
If you’d like to try DrainWig, you can grab a pair on Amazon!
